TOW 9 and 10: PR OpenMic

PR OpenMic is a public relations tool where students, faculty, and practitioners discuss current events, suggest ideas,  ask questions, and connect with others.

PR OpenMic can provide job opportunities for current and recent graduates.  They can view current jobs and internships with descriptions of what the organization is looking for.  This an even better way to locate a job opportunity.  Other websites, such as Monster.com, may not have every opportunity available.  PR OpenMic is, specifically a Public Relations site, where any PR company can create a profile and post job information.  This makes fora better opportunity for accessing recent college graduates, who may bring something new or different to the table.

Another great benefit of PR OpenMic is the current PR news that is posted.  It allows you to see what is good and bad PR.  It also allows you to understand how you should and should not act in a crisis situation or really any situation dealing with the public.  I think this is a great tool for students to see what companies want from the PR people.

Another great tool that PR OpenMic has is the recent blog posts that are posted by members of the site.  It highlights certain posts that may be of interest to you.  They all offer different insights, opinions, and information.  This is a good way for people to stay connected with one another on the site.

I found this blog post interesting as it is spring break now.  It is a story about Panama City Beach, which as we all know, is a very popular college spring break destination.  It discusses how the city is trying to change their image to a more family friendly place.  http://www.propenmic.org/profiles/blogs/spring-break-in-pcb-family

PR OpenMic has many great tools on the website for current PR students and recent graduates to utilize.

  1. I am not a fan of PR Openmic at all. I think it is confusing and has a little too many options on the page. I think that the creators should work on making a more user friendly site. Since singing up last year I have visited the site less than 3 times. Although I may not like it I definitely do agree that every PR practitioner should join it. If you can navigate through the site it has a lot of useful information and potential jobs. It is a way to network with other PR professionals across the world.
